Energy & Environment
As part of Duke’s continued leadership in environmental stewardship and sustainability, the university has signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment. To achieve Duke's goals, Facilities plays an important role in improving energy and environmental conservation.
Led by Energy Manager, Steve Palumbo, the department has been active in taking the lead in many campus projects such as: increasing the number of trees planted at Duke and lowering the university's use of coal by 70 percent. Facilities Management is doing its part to create a greener Duke and help the university achieve climate neutrality by 2024.
Whether creating and implementing sustainable energy management policies or using environmentally-friendly building practices, Facilities has pledged to help Duke eliminate or offset all campus greenhouse gas emissions over time, and in the process, lead the transition to a sustainable economy.
